Hawaii is a charming island state in the US that is famous for its beaches and green valleys. There are various beautiful small towns in Hawaii that are considered best for hiking, skiing, diving, helicopter visits, surfing and boating.

Hawaii is always on top of my list for vacations. I have compiled a list of beautiful small towns in Hawaii that are worth visiting this summer!

Beautiful Small Towns in Hawaii

Here are the best small towns in Hawaii:

Haleiwa, Oahu

This beautiful Hawaii town is situated an hour’s distance from the island of Waikiki. It’s a fascinating beach that attracts the attention of not only humans but also the birds, so it is the land of birds as well.

 Rainbow Bridge

It has the best surfing locations, such as Ehukai Beach Park, which is also famous for Waimea Bay. Other historic locations include Anahulu River, which is the most visited place, and people usually take good pictures at the Rainbow Bridge located over here.

The airport in this city was used during World War 2, but now it is a desolate place and is open for tourists and the general public, so try to visit this historical place as well.

Holualoa, Hawaii

Hōlualoa is a small town in Hawaii that offers exciting experiences for travellers, especially for coffee lovers. Mauka Meadows is a prominent coffee farm here and is located within the Hualalai volcano area.

It is highly recommended to visit the Kona coffee and enjoy the taste. Puu Waawaa and Honuaula Forest Reserve are two other areas of interest that can be explored by walking or driving. Walking seems great in this place to enjoy the local beauty.

Naalehu, Hawaii

It is the southernmost Hawaii town of the USA, with around 1000 people. It is a soothing and peaceful place away from the crowded areas and is famous for the Kau forest reserve.

Mauna Loa volcano and Punaluu (black sand beach) are very close to this town. Small and simple bars, restaurants, and natural beauty make this town very attractive for visitors.

Makawao, Maui

It is the place of Hawaiian cowboys (paniolo) who stayed here and strayed around the town in the last century. If you are visiting in July, then you must attend the Makawao Rodeo, a locally hosted paniolo competition, as a sign of the Declaration of American Independence.

Art lovers also enjoy visiting Hot Island Glass and Hui No’eau Visual Arts Centre. There are various adventurous places to visit, such as ungle Zipline Maui-HI and the Twin Falls Maui Waterfall.

These places add to the beauty of the town and attract a lot of visitors. As I am fond of plants and natural flora of any place, I would recommend visiting the Koolau Forest Reserve and Kula Botanical Garden as well.

Lanai City

It is the main city of the island. The interesting thing about this town is the huge pineapple economy of the Lanai, which is due to the largest number of pineapple trees here as compared to other US cities.

Lanai Cat Sanctuary

It also has historical importance because it is the place of retreat for King Kamehameha I. Tourists can still visit his beautiful places and property in the Kaunolu village, which has strong religious and cultural value.

Lanai Cat Sanctuary is another attraction in the town, and people, especially kids, enjoy it here because of the variety of beautiful, fluffy cats that are adorable.

Honokaa, Hawaii

Honokaa is a beachside that provides scenic views and a great surfing experience because of its perfect and clean sand and tube-like waves. It is located an hour away from Holualoa.

It presents the best landscape and is highly famous for the presence of Pu’u O Umi Natural Area Reserve (an animal shelter for a variety of species), Kohala Watershed Forest, and Waipio Valley.

Honokaa People’s Theatre is a good entertainment place for locals and visitors. There are various other places to visit here, like Hamakua Forest Reserve and Kalopa State Recreation Area.

You can spend a whole day here and stay at the good places at night, such as Hamakua Sanctuary and Waipio Wayside Bed & Breakfast.

Lahaina, Maui

This historic town was the old capital of Hawaii. In the 19th century, it was a famous spot for whaling, and its port was the busiest one. Most of the history is preserved in the town.

It is a good place for shopping and visiting art galleries. The theatre performance of Lahaina is also very famous and people like it because it is preserving their traditional values like dresses, dances and customs.

Paia, Maui

It is a heaven for surfers because it offers a variety of surfing experiences like kitesurfing and windsurfing. The famous surfing spots in Paia include Baldwin Beach Park, Hookipa Beach, and Paia Secret Beach.

Kaulahao Beach is a good destination for scuba diving, and the main areas are Kuau Bay and Mantokuji Bay. It is also recommended for people who regularly visit beaches and are in search of a new and fascinating beach destination.

If you like classic movies and have watched “Rainbow Bridge”, then the good news is that Haiku village in Paia has a filming site for this movie and you can witness this place.

It is also known as a spiritual place due to the presence of a peace centre at the Maui Dharma Centre. Sacred Garden of Maliko is also a place to visit during your trip to Paia.
