Snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef

Explore Caye Caulker’s North Island

The island of Caye Caulker is divided into two parts and these two are just 2 minutes away via boat ride or swimming. However, these two parts are very different from one another. The North side is quite abandoned, having few people and business places.

It is best to visit the island via bike because places are far away and bikes are easily available on rent from the local shops and hotels. You can also find one from airbnb.

Fly over the Great Blue Hole

Some people also like scuba diving here but it is a bit tiresome as a 3 hour boat ride is required to get there. So, if you want to scuba dive then it is recommended to find some nearby spot.

Kayak around the island

I have observed that few people choose to go kayaking at Caye Caulker so, you can easily explore the places that are not seen by many others. Marine life is  widespread here and tropical fish and sting rays can be easily spotted. 

West side is better for kayaking because the water is calmer and the iconic tarpon dock is also visible. Some people have seen manatees at this side and also the opening of a great underwater cave.

Belize barrier reef is located to the Eastern side and is also worth visiting. You can easily get the kayak from local operators for 15 BZE per hour (7.5 dollars).

Have dinner at a sunset bar

I really love watching the sunset and it seems very charming and perfect at some places especially at the Pelican Sunset Bar at Caye Caulker. Try to experience this while having dinner at this beautiful place.

Note: Winter is a high season at this place so it is hard to find a table here so, arrive earlier to get a table.

Iguana Reef Inn’s bar is another good place to watch the sunset.

Sunbathe on the docks

Various wooden docks are present alongside the island and visitors enjoy sitting and walking there for some time. Some docks are part of hotels so you need to get permission but some are freely accessible.

You have two options for travelling to Caye Caulker such as plane or a ferry. There are two popular ferry companies;Caribbean Sprinter and San Pedro Belize Express. The later one is more famous mainly because it travels often and you can easily find the slot. However, prior booking is a must for both the companies and it will cost you around 21 dollars per person for a 45 min ride.

Plane will allow you to reach Caye Caulker in just 10 minutes with an approximate cost of about 90 dollars per person. Two more popular plane choices are Maya Island Air and Tropic air.

Weezie’s: It is my top recommendation to stay in Caye Caulker. Although it is expensive, it’s worth trying because it provides the luxury resort, gorgeous pool, waterfront space and a private dock and all these things increase the charm of staying there.

El Ben Cabañas: It is a dazzling place with thatched roofs, beautiful pool, mesmerizing views, perfect service near the aqua blue water.

Colinda Cabanas: These are vibrant and affordable cabanas that are located close to the best bars, markets and restaurants of the Caye Caulker. These are also close to the waterfront and you can sit, relax and see the calm water.
